How to Achieve God Goals (Even When You’re Scared)

God goals are the seemingly impossible goals God places in your heart that scares the hallelujahs out of you. And once you give God your yes and allow yourself to become His vessel, you may be inclined to quote one very classic, but ever so powerful, piece of scripture - Philippians 4:13.

If you’ve been around church or have a few church friends or follow a few church-y people on Instagram, you might have seen the verse “Philippians 4:13 somewhere before. If you are brand new to Jesus, reading the Bible, and the “Christian” thing, this is what it says:

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
— Philippians 4:13

In high school, I would write this on my arm before my track meets and then give it a quick look and look up at the sky to.. you know.. “give God the glory.”

…Honestly, it wasn’t that holy.

I loved the I can do all things part. I could win this race because I did all the hard work and I am the best, way faster than those people, I’m like Usain Bolt! My mind was consumed with I this and I that, but it wasn’t until later (waaaaay later) when God slapped the pride out of my blind spirit showing me the true power of this verse was in the second part:

through Christ who strengthens me.

And in five words, God unveiled three truths that will propel His vision in you to the next level.

Let’s tear this bad boy apart:

  1. To go to the goal, you go through Him.

    “through Christ”

Have you ever ran into a door? Either because it was so clean you didn’t see it, or perhaps you weren’t paying attention. Regardless of your experience, it’s hard to go to where you need to unless you go through. There’s no way to avoid it. THere’s no way around it. You must go through that door.

In the same way, as you enter your calling, you must go through each step with Jesus. He isn’t the random person you ask on the street for directions, He is the GPS that you are following step by step, because you have full faith that each move will get you where He needs you to be.

  2. God is the only one who can sustain you.

Ever find yourself so tired? As if there are no amount of naps, coffee, or relaxing vacations that would satisfy your need to rest.

This is because your battery is so drained from this world that it requires divine strength. Your calling requires energy that manifests itself in the physical world, but also just as much in the spiritual world. And if you’re trying to charge yourself on the things of this world for a spiritual desire, it’s as if you’re trying to charge your iPhone with an Android battery - it just doesn’t work.

Be intentional about strengthening yourself in the Lord. Rely on Christ. Come to Him, not when it’s perfect, not as your last resort, but as the first one you call. He wants to be the one charging you and hyping you up for the wild goals that He’s planned in your lifetime.

Pursuing the fullness of the vision God places in your heart is the most thrilling yes. But I would be lying straight to your face if I said every day is easy. It’s not. Many days are difficult, but for the days that you, too, feel overwhelmed, it is my hope and prayer that you will be able to take your Philippians 4:13 and see that God is going through this with you and He will strengthen you in the most perfect of ways.

With Love, xx

Jo.
