In The Storm
Anyone will tell you that life comes with storms. It’s not a matter of if they come, but rather when. I myself am one of those people who absolutely hate storms. When they come, I immediately question why God would allow such a thing and then blame Him for everything going on in my life.
But our beautiful hope is set on this - even in the storm, Jesus is there. (Please look at Mark 4:35-41 for the fulllll story)
There are many times that I am convinced being in a storm is a bad thing. But the reality is, our desire should ask to be in a storm with Jesus rather than in the places He is not.
He is not surprised by the storm
In the passage, we see that Jesus is dead asleep. This peace reflected in his ability to sleep through it shows us the peace he has.
The storm that’s happening he totally expected. He knew exactly where the boat would enter just as much as he knew how you would leave it.
Trust Jesus with your storm. Whether it be relationally, financially, physically, He knew it was coming and He knows exactly where it’s going. Though you may not have the answers, rest easy in the truth that He is there with you.
He is in control of the storm
Once Jesus wakes up, He calms the storm. Perhaps the question is “how is Jesus in control if I’ve been praying over this for sooooo long?” or “If He really cares for me, wouldn’t he just make it stop?”
What we notice is that Jesus didn’t calm the storm the moment it started brewing. There he and the disciples are in the middle of it all. This tells us two things: God is in control and God is on His time.
I don’t have the answers or the formula to tell you how long you will be in this storm or how God will see you through, but what I do know is that He allows these things for a purpose and these are the moments which will unveil new pieces of who He is in your life.
And yes, the storm may be powerful, but so much more so is the power of our God. Just by His word, He will calm it. So trust that it is His word, in His time that will see you through.
It is my hope and prayer that in your storms, you will be able to lift your eyes to God and come to a place of full surrender and trust He will do as He must.
