Out with the Old

Hey BAEs!

I’ve been a plant mama for over two years now, and there are two major things that I’ve learned from caring for them: the importance of pruning and space.

Out with the Old

According to Google, pruning is defined as the process of “reducing the extent of something by removing superfluous or unwanted parts.” When caring for your plants, it’s important to look through them every now and then to pluck out yellowing leaves and rotting roots. If these parts are kept, they take up space and can even kill the entire plant.

In John 15, Jesus describes Himself as the vine and us as the branches, being pruned and purified. We’re part of one collective vine and in order for us to produce healthy fruit and grow in the Lord, we need to be pruned of the things that are not of God.

When we hold on to things that are not healthy for us, our growth is hindered and we allow those unhealthy parts to fester.  Entering a new season often means cutting out old habits and making more room for God to work in our lives.

What are the things you need to prune in your life right now?

Need Space?

Plants will only grow as much as you let them. With houseplants, sometimes you want them to stay a certain size, so you keep them in the same size pot and cut off parts to grow into another plant of its own.

There are two things you can learn from this process and neither is really a bad thing unless it’s not where God is leading you.

“Grow where you are planted,” is something we may often hear. For example, if God calls you to be planted in a ministry, it is important to grow there until you’re called to be used elsewhere. Like plants in their pots, we will take up space there because we’re growing.

Something else you can do with a plant that is outgrowing its space is to cut off pieces to propagate into a new plant of its own or place it back into the same soil to make the plant fuller. This is similar to working in the overflow of how God is working in our lives. Deep, right??

By working in and through the overflow of what God has given us, we are able to be used to grow God’s kingdom.

As a plant parent, I know it’s my responsibility to care for them by creating an environment that facilitates healthy growth. If we don’t pay attention, we could possibly allow toxins to spread or kill the plant completely.

So, I hope you all are doing the same with your walk.

Praying for and loving you always,

Angeli <3
