Stuck in the Middle: How to Navigate a Godly Mindset in the Struggle
Have you ever played monkey in the middle - this game pre-iPad generation where you would have one person in the middle trying to get the ball while two other people tossed it above you keeping it away? It’s fun at first but when I got stuck going back and forth after too long, I would be like.. this game is no fun.
That’s how life can be.
You’re stuck in situations where things are out of your reach and no longer within your control. When this happens, who do you become? What are you relying on?
As of late, God has put me in a season that has challenged me to push through the trials surrounded by tough people, and asked me one very important question - who are you in the middle?
Because unless you’re fresh out of the womb, you’re probably in the middle of something. A question of what to do now, a concern of what’s coming next. Whatever it may be, there are 3 steps to navigate a godly mindset, even in the struggle of the middle of the storm.
I want to take a look at this story of the disciples in the storm in Mark 4:37 - 41
What are you in the middle of?
One of the first things that the disciples are aware of is their situation. We need to bring awareness and ask ourselves - what is it that I am in the middle of? Sometimes we just accept this weightiness in our lives and think oh, that’s just the way it goes when really these may be indicators of the areas in life God wants to move and show you just how good he is.
What are your current mindsets?
We see that the moment they see the storm the disciples immediately go to fight or flight mode and are basically like Jesus don’t you see we’re about to drown??! Do something sir!
And outside looking in it’s like.. well why don’t they just calm down? Jesus was on the boat with them. If I had Jesus with me physically, I would never panic.
But BAE. We’re doing the same thing. We forget that the Holy Spirit is inside of us, giving us the power that Jesus has to overcome the things we are facing. We need to assess the mindsets, the things that are making us think Jesus where are you? And take hold of the authority given to us by the Holy Spirit.
What is God molding?
Your trial is not a season wasted!!!
It probably won’t make sense right now, but your season is significant for a reason beyond you.
It will bloom in the significance of who God is in your life, expanding the truth of who He is in your life.
It will teach you more of your identity in Christ, unveiling another truth of who He has created you to be.
It will impact someone beyond you, where someone will learn and grow from who you are becoming.
As always, here at BAE it is our prayer that something deep within you is stirred up to get to know your Heavenly Father, align yourself with who He’s created you to be, and equip you to do all that He’s called you to.
We love you!
xx,
Jo
