Why You Serve
Hey BAE’s! Quick little question, are you the type of person that feels the need to say ‘yes’ to everything...and not ask for help either?
This is something I’ve struggled with often in my walk with Christ. There are some things I will solely leave up to God, while I allow myself to bear the burden of other things. But guess what? We don’t need to do that! You CAN say ‘no’ sometimes and it’s totally fine!
A Servant Heart
Trying to do things on our own can be draining. Recently, I realized how burnt out I felt; physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Working full time has definitely taken its toll on me, but I still feel blessed because it was something I prayed for.
I said yes to a couple new ministry tasks that took up my weekends. It came to the point where ministry (career and church-related) was something I almost dreaded. I wanted to fulfill all the tasks assigned to me and just sleep, but the next day would always call me to something else.
And one day, it finally got to me. I BAWLED in my car.
“Ministry doesn’t save you, Jesus does.” That was something I heard that really shifted my intentions towards ministry. Though we are taught to serve, we need to have the heart to serve.
So, I needed to pray about it. What I did was/is supposed to be for Christ, yet where was He in the equation?
It’s Okay to Say No
Before you get burnt out, the intention behind our actions is usually to get as much work done as possible, prioritizing some sort of end goal that seems so far away. We can start having tunnel vision, forgetting those around you and maybe even neglecting your time with God.
Yes, it’s wonderful to serve, but remember WHO you’re serving and why you’re doing it. That being said, you CAN say no to ministry duties sometimes (hehe duties). Pray about it and speak to your leaders.
*** If you’re currently experiencing immense stress or burnout, take a moment to pause. Take a few deep breaths. You’re doing a great job! Grab something to eat and drink some water (: ***
Matthew 11:28-30 says,
“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Again, I hope you know that you’re doing great with whatever it is you’ve been called to do. Please take care of yourselves. I promise that you’re not alone, God’s got you! And He has also placed people in your life to help you out too!
Praying for and loving you always,
Angeli <3
