On Protecting your Testimony

Testimony was one of those words that were always thrown around at church that I never fully understood the meaning of. I thought it had to be some transformative story of growing up in a gang and then God delivered me from it. Or I was bleeding for years and then a miraculous touch of God healed me.

These are very much testimonies But when someone asks, “oh, what’s your testimony?” it doesn’t always have to be something of that caliber. God is just as present and involved in the little moments as He is in the big transformations.

A testimony is evidence or proof of the existence or appearance of something.

It’s the moments where you saw God as evident or appearing in a situation.

A testimony can be how you got a parking spot at the beach during summer.

A testimony can be how you were able to survive this week.

A testimony can be how you were able to get a surprise curly fry in a box full of regular fries.

It’s the moments that capture you and God shows you “yes, i’m here too.”

The Power of Your Testimony

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony”

Revelation 12:11a

Your testimony holds so much power. Knowing and acknowledging God’s presence in your life has the power which transcends this physical world and extends into the spiritual, allowing God to use you to break chains, speak life, move things into physical existence.

I once heard a preacher say “you may be the only Bible that someone sees,” so know that with each interaction, known and unknown, you have the opportunity to testify of the goodness of God.

How do we share it?

You don’t need to be a preacher or in a church to share how God’s moved in your life. It can literally be in the conversations you have with friends, coworkers, loved ones. You can send a text and blurt “ah, praise God I got all green lights on the way home!”

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

Those moments have the power to plant seeds which will bloom in people’s own lives to see how God moves.

Ask God today to open up your eyes to see how He moves so that you can share with others just how good He is.

It’s my prayer that God reveals to you just how much power your testimony holds. Whether it be the moment you accepted Christ in your life, or the little bits of your day where God reminded you of His goodness, I pray for joy, hope, and boldness to be met with the words you share with others.

xx,

Jo
