What It Means to be Saved
I grew up in church. I was saved when I was 13, but my relationship with Jesus started when i was 21.
(For those of you who want a little insight on my testimony, please check it out here!)
If you come from a similar background, you might have thought being saved looked like:
Praying
Reading your bible
Knowing “How Great is Our God” without the lyrics on the screen
Being able to recite John 3:16
Thinking how good you act = how much God loves you
And yes, our relationship with God may mirror these things, but it’s so much more. There is a shift in your spirit, an intimacy, peace, joy and freedom that can only be explained by one person - Jesus.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son. That whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have an everlasting life. “
John 3:16
This verse is the backbone of what “saved” means. To be saved is to be captured by the grace of God, knowing that we aren’t worthy of being saved, yet God loved us soooo much He sent down His son as the ultimate sacrifice so we could be with Him.
I’ll be honest with you, I do take my salvation for granted. I get familiar with being with Jesus that I disregard his holiness in my life. But he’s so good to me and patient enough to mold me over the years to help me rediscover how good it is to be doing this life with Him.
Over the years, I realized, yes, being saved means I do read my bible and pray and know How Great is our God (it’s a really good song, how can we not?)
But it also looks like:
Having a best friend who’s always got your back (Isaiah 41:10)
Having a father who is a rock of peace in situations where it’s ultimate chaos (Philippians 4:6)
Joy that gives you strength (Nehemiah 8:10)
Knowing He has a purpose for me (Jeremiah 29:11)
Certainty that there’s more to this life than what we see right now (John 3:16)
If you’ve known Jesus for quite some time, I do pray that today you lean into Him and ask Him to remind you of the joy of what it means to be saved. He is a God of fresh anointing and such a creative one, so leave your expectations at the door and see how fresh He can move.
If you have yet to accept Jesus into your heart and join this beautiful family of Christ, we can do it right now over this blog. Here’s how:
Acknowledge you are a sinner and have done wrong
Believe Jesus is the Son of God, who died for you on the cross to defeat your sin
Confess that He is Lord over your life, committing your life completely to Him.
If it’s your day one with Jesus or you recommitted your life to Jesus, please DM us on Instagram/Youtube/Facebook and we’d love to connect with you!
Praying for you and loving over you always,
xx,
Jo
