Let it Go

Sometimes loving someone is hard.

Other times, choosing to love from a distance may be even harder.

Who you choose to surround yourself with is essential in living your life to the caliber God’s called you to which is why there is so much power in being able to ask God to help you distinguish which relationships are for you and which He is pruning you from.

***DISCLAIMER: please note that this advice doesn’t cover all relationships (such as marriage) but serves as general advice for friendships, significant others, etc.

How do you know it’s time to let it go and love from a distance?

It bears no fruit.

The Bible discusses something called the fruit of the spirit. These are :

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
— Galatians 5:22-23

When a relationship is no longer meant for you, you no longer see it bear these things. Rather than feeling love, there’s animosity. In times of peace, it may seem chaotic.

It may even seem more draining to try and maintain what once was and fighting to keep the pieces together, rather than challenging each other and helping one another grow and speaking life over one another.

These things are a good indicator to see if it’s time to love from a distance. You may no longer be called to serve each other or steward each other in your season.

Okay, so let’s say you know this relationship isn’t something God has called you to nurture anymore, what do you do now?

Continue to pray for them

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
— Matthew 5:44

Loving someone from a distance does not mean you can just drop them completely. It 100% says in the bible that we are to pray for our enemies and to even love them. SO GIRL. Continue to cover that person in prayer - and I’m not talking about like “smite them, Lord” but prayers of love and grace and blessing

Know that God sees your heart and totally understands you. He himself has experienced the pain and hurt of betrayal of those in His inner circle. But dear one, know that as you draw near to Him he will teach you his very way of being able to still be a testament to His goodness in the grace of letting go.
